Submit your production package to be evaluated for funding through the MDP Film Fund Financing System. MDP currently has plans to provide production and domestic theatrical distribution financing for six (6) motion pictures a year. This annual capacity will be fulfilled through two (2) financing transactions, with each transaction funding three (3) motion pictures. When MDP accepts a particular film project to be funded, it will be offered to investors in one of two MDP Film Fund Financing System transactions during the year. Below, we provide a brief summary of the items that are required for us to begin our evaluation, as well as our basic evaluation criteria. In addition to the necessary documents and supporting materials, filmmakers who have advanced to the latter stages of our selection process will be required to conduct an in-person interview. Contact our motion picture division today to discuss your project.
Filmmaker Criteria
MDP seeks to finance feature-length film projects submitted by talented, proven filmmakers and production companies. The process used for selecting the three (3) film projects financed in a MDP Financing System transaction is rigorous, as the projects must clear many hurdles, satisfying several financial, legal and accounting prerequisites.
Technical Considerations
All pictures will have a range of shooting options from the “red camera” to 35 mm color film using anamorphic lenses or prisms ready for theatrical, high definition and digital exhibition, and mastering onto DVD. Sound, including M&E tracks for foreign distribution, is to be digitally mastered ready for full stereophonic (surround) optical, digital, and DVD reproduction. The laboratory primarily used for developing dailies will be the MDP Film Laboratory and/or the production company, subject to the approval of MDP.
Budget Considerations
MDP currently has no plans to finance motion pictures with total production budgets greater than $20 million. While we do not have a stated minimum budget size (other than that required by completion bonding, that is, budgets of no less than $2-3 million, depending on the scale, location and complexity of the principle photography). Production budgets that do not contain sufficiently reasonable (and justifiable) elements to attract a wide theatrical audience will not fit our financing criteria.
